This student-centric facility was chosen by ASU’s student body to be an expanded space for the memorial union. Inside is student event space, meeting space, study space, etc. The building is designed for net zero energy and zero waste. Its demolition and construction have a 99% diversion rate with meaningful diversion
Some energy efficient features include, exterior shading of walls and windows, high levels of building envelope insulation, and low window-to-wall ratio and high-efficiency glass. In order to achieve zero waste, the building incorporates on-campus and local reuse of items and building materials, post-consumer recycled materials in project build, finishes and furnishings, and design spaces to increase operational waste flow and consumer use, to name a few.
