The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication building is designed to reduce its urban heat island effect through the use of special roofing materials, reduce its water use and retain storm water for irrigation, utilize recycled construction materials and include nontoxic materials to improve indoor air quality.
The Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication building earned a Silver rating on the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating system.
