Explore the Biodesign Institute Bldg. B

The Biodesign Institute represents the largest single investment in research infrastructure in Arizona. It is master-planned as four interconnected buildings comprising 800,000 sq. ft. of advanced research space, two of which are completed and house nearly 600 faculty, staff and students.

The architectural elements of the Biodesign Institute reinforce the idea that science brings illumination, discovery and connection to our future. The use of transparent materials is reflective of what is possible, while the use of brick connects the institute to the existing history of Arizona State University.

The environmentally friendly aspects of the institute’s facility have earned it numerous awards, including 2006 Lab of the Year by R&D Magazine. Both buildings are certified as Leadership in Environmental Engineering and Design (LEED).

The ability to study and construct systems at nanoscale – a size 1,000 times smaller than a human hair – has unlocked a door to discovery. The institute's mission is to accelerate these discoveries and translate them into useful applications by integrating studies between biotechnology, biomedicine, nanotechnology, information technology and cognitive science.
